Lt Col Sean Fynn Officer Commanding 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry New York, ‘The Fighting 69th’, with Donnchadh O’Ceallachain, Ann Cusack and Councillor Eddie Mulligan visiting Waterford Treasures on his recent visit to Waterford City to learn all about Thomas Francis Meagher who, in September 1861, implored the Irish of the North to defend the Union and began recruiting, by advertising in local newspapers to form Company K of the 69th Regiment. It became known as the “Fighting 69th” of the New York State Militia.
