Over 200 people packed the Large Room to hear Professor Roy Foster deliver a marvellous talk on The Revolutionary Generation in Ireland (and Waterford) 1890-1922. From his reading of the diaries and letters of men and women such as the Waterford Quaker Rosamund Jacob, Professor Foster sketched a picture of a generation who identified the need to make themselves different from their parents. The diaries afford a very personal insight into the birthpangs of a new revolutionary generation, the very founders of the Irish state. Roy will publish a book on the subject in September. Next talk is Alfie Hale – 15 September – Medieval Museum – Hope springs eternal, a sporting life.
