Waterford 1100 Monthly Talks

Robert Fisk for Waterford 1100 Talks

Waterford Treasures is proud to announce that we are bringing Robert Fisk from Beirut to Ireland for our Waterford 1100 Talk in July. Robert Fisk, the most celebrated war correspondent of our time, has a serious track record of bearing witness to war. His knowledge of history and literature combined with his razor-sharp analysis make him a voice to be ignored at our peril.

As well as the Middle East another interest of Fisk’s is the First World War to which he has a personal connection, his father serving in it. Before being posted to France, Fisk Senior was sent to Dublin and his memories of this experience are the starting point for Fisk’s presentation in Waterford entitled ‘For Little Countries’. Fisk will reflect on whether we yet understand World War I and its period and on how his own life as a correspondent in the Middle East today is directly influenced by the nations which won the Great War in which his father fought.
